Jujutsu Kaisen Event Review – KITTE Marunouchi New Year Pop-Up Shop and Restaurant Collaboration – Part 2

What are your New Year’s resolutions? One of mine is to open and display/eat/use the merch I buy within a week after purchasing them. I have this terrible habit of buying stuff and then piling them up in boxes. Sometimes I even forget what I bought in the first place, with goods languishing in boxes for months or even years. It’s such a waste of time and money!

For 2022, I want to document every otaku-related merch I have, upload pics of them on social media, and display them at home if they’re the kind that are supposed to be displayed. If they’re supposed to be eaten then I’ll gobble them up as soon as possible, instead of wolfing them down after the sell-by date. If they’re supposed to be worn or carried around then I’ll do that, too, that is, use them at least once.

Jujutsu Kaisen New Year Display

Let’s get this year started on the right footing! I displayed the acrylic figures I got from the KITTE Marunouchi x JJK0 event I posted about the other day

I’ve been wanting a special holiday set for a while now so I’m really happy to get these. In Japan we usually display New Year decor only until the first half of January, but our babies are so adorable I think I’ll keep them this way till the end of the month!

Jujutsu Kaisen New Year Outfits for Current Cast of Characters

There are two groups for this acrylic figure set: the ones with a green base are the current first and second-year students with Gojo-sensei wearing his black eye mask.

Green side

Maki Zen’in’s fringe is cut straight, and her glasses are squarish and purple as seen in the anime. Toge Inumaki, on the other hand, has his straight, bowl-cut hair. Nobara Kugisaki is wearing a red floral kimono, while Yuji Itadori is wearing a dark grey 袴 hakama with orange 羽織 haori. Megumi also wears his designated colour, turquoise. His black and white shikigami are stylized to look like 獅子 shishi or traditional lions. Aren’t they adorable? Satoru Gojo wears a black haori with blue hakama, to match the colour of his eyes.

All of them sit on red floor cushions called 座布団 zabuton, with a base of green tatami mats. Each of them has a Jujutsu Kaisen placard illustrated to look like wood with a light brown colour.

Jujutsu Kaisen New Year Outfits for Movie Cast of Characters

The other set has a black, diamond-shaped placard saying JJK 0. Yuta Okkotsu is wearing the plainest outfit of them all. Rika Orimoto is in a royal blue floral kimono, the same colours as her dress in the anime. Suguru Geto has on a golden haori, and he’s giving us the side eye. The only changes with the rest are: Gojo’s black eye mask is replaced with a white bandage, Maki’s eyeglasses are roundish and her fringe is longer and arranged to the side, and Toge’s hair is the same white colour but spiked up.

Red side

They all sit on mustard floor cushions on a tatami-style base with red edging. While I love the illustrations, I’m somewhat disappointed they didn’t change the tone or shade of Maki, Toge and Gojo’s outfits so that there’s a bit of a difference between their first and second year selves.

Freshly-purchased state

BTW, first and second year Panda looked exactly the same to me, so I picked the JJK 0 version. He’s the biggest amongst them so I put him square in the middle of my display. Cute, eh?

Back of acrylic keyholder stands

These acrylic figures are actually the keyholder type. They have holes above their heads so those who want to use them as keyholders can do so with the included ball chain.

KITTE x Jujutsu Kaisen Novelty Coasters

Now let’s look at the novelty items! Previously, I mentioned that eating the collab menu will get you a novelty coaster: the more expensive the meal, the more coasters. I got one each of every available character, featured in JJK 0, which made me very happy 😀

Novelty coasters for the KITTE x Jujutsu Kaisen event

The design looks fabulous, with its gold lining and background decorated by a 雲模様 or traditional Japanese cloud pattern and calligraphy-style Jujutsu High school emblem. My only disappointment is the quality of the paper: while it’s glossy, it’s very thin! These are absolutely for collecting only and won’t last as actual drink coasters!

KITTE x Jujutsu Kaisen Novelty Postcards

Now on to the novelty postcards, featuring the current cast of characters. Shopping at the stores inside the KITTE Marunouchi building or eating a collab dish at one of the designated restaurants will get you one random postcard for every JPY 1000 purchase.

Novelty postcards

The design has a red-and-white chequered pattern, called 市松模様 ichimatsu-moyō. At the back are the KITTE and JJK logos.

Traditional Japanese Interior

Here’s my display again, this time with a gold check pattern for background. If I’d had these merch earlier I would’ve used this picture for my 年賀状 nengajō or traditional New Year card.
