Happy New Year! For my first 2022 blog post, I’m writing about an event I went to on January 2nd: the KITTE Marunouchi x Jujutsu Kaisen 0 collaboration, where official JJK New Year merch are sold before they hit the stores, and restaurants offer JJK-themed meals with novelty items.

Tokyo Station Marunouchi Area
KITTE Marunouchi is a shopping centre right next to Tokyo Station, part of a building owned by Japan Post, the company that runs the Japanese postal system. ‘Kitte’ is the Romanised version of 切手, Japanese for ‘stamp’ as in snail mail stamp.
We arrived half an hour before opening time but there was a long queue already. Good thing we came early, though, because by the time the event started the line snaked all the way around the exhibit area.
A staff person was distributing pamphlets of the event for everyone queuing. They’re also available at a stand next to the information counter.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 Exhibit Area and Photo Spots
In the exhibit area there were panels of the characters wearing traditional Japanese New Year’s outfits, a giant Panda balloon, and photo displays from the film. Let’s have a look around!
There was a large screen playing the movie trailer, as well as smaller screens with TV anime trailers.
Character designs for the film were displayed on a large panel.
Movie screenshots and a relationship chart were printed big. These are the same ones in the promo material distributed in movie theatres.
I think the cutest attraction was a giant Panda balloon, with his ‘I heart Panda’ armband.
He also had on a sash saying 謹賀新年 kinga shinnen, the Japanese equivalent to the ‘Happy New Year’ greeting.
Most popular area where everyone was taking pics was a row of panels with the JJK characters. One had the current first and second year students, with Gojo-sensei and his black eye mask. They’re wearing traditional outfits (hakama for the boys and kimono for the girls) for the New Year. Megumi’s shikigami dogs are stylized to look like 獅子 shishi or lions. Cute, eh?
Another row had the main characters for the movie: Yuta Okkotsu, Rika Orimoto, Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki, Panda, Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto. They’re also wearing traditional attire. The character panels have a hand-drawn, painterly look to them, like they’ve been drawn using watercolours.
I particularly like the Jujutus High emblem in the background.
There’s also the teaser illustration for the film, printed life-sized for taking pics.
Here’s a view of the entire collab space from the third floor. I took this pic after we had lunch and were shopping at the stores surrounding the exhibit.
In the morning there was a big crown, but by early afternoon the queue was gone.
Jujutsu Kaisen Pop-Up Store
The pop-up store area wasn’t selling exclusive merch, but simply selling some before they hit the specialty stores.
Most popular cart where everyone goes first is the acrylic keyholder stand cart, then the cart for the smaller keyholders in blind (silver foil) packaging.
There were also blankets and die-cut cushions, neither of which were popular.
Merch like air fresheners, disinfectants, toothbrush and paste, and so on are already available in specialty stores such as Animate, so there really was no need to buy them during this event. I think they’re meant for those who want a one-stop shop for merch. The building is a skip away from Tokyo station so anyone on their way somewhere could have a convenient place to shop.
An entire cart was filled with disposable face masks, which no one seemed to be buying.
I skipped most of the merch except for the acrylic figures, all of which I bought. Ugh! There goes my winter bonus money! xD They were so cute I couldn’t help it, ahaha!
There aren’t many acrylic stands with the characters wearing traditional attire, so these are pretty special. In another blog post I’ll upload the pics where I displayed the full set at home.
How the Campaign Works
Shop the stores inside the building and eat the collab menu and get event-only giveaways: coasters and postcards, randomly distributed.
For every JPY 1000 purchase at stores in the KITTE building (not including the pop-up store, post office, Tokyo City i, Tokyo City i CAFE, Lawson convenience store, and IMT Boutique inside Intermedia Tech), you get one randomly-distributed postcard. From January 1 to 10, the designs are the characters in New Year outfits, while from the 11th to the 31st they’ll switch to the school uniform design.
In addition, when you eat a collab meal at one of the designated restaurants – which I counted to be more than a dozen – you get a ticket to exchange for round paper coasters. More expensive meals means more coasters.
The result? We ate a lot and shopped a lot, and got at least one each of all available designs. Yey!
From January 11th, the pop-up store will be moved to a much smaller space on the 2nd floor, so if you’re in the vicinity, better get there ASAP!
In Part 2 of this event, I’ll display the acrylic figures I bought and add info on how to get them if you can’t make it to the event in Tokyo.
In Part 3, I’ll show pics of the food we had at three restaurants, and add a hopefully helpful review for each.
