It’s Golden Week here in Japan but because we are self-isolating I’ve no amazing travel plans or anything worth sharing adventure-wise. What I plan to do is clean my apartment and finally catch up on my reading: I’ve got dozens of half-finished novels that I need to read already. Plus maybe repot a plant or two. And of course, write down the next part of my novela.
Most places are closed up over here, except for the food places. I was finally able to complete my Morinaga chocolate ice cream bar collection during my last grocery run, as you can see in the cover image above.
Let’s see what the characters say:

- 1 Eren: “Whooyeah! I wanna eat, too!”
- 2 Mikasa: “The wall’s not over there.” (There’s a wall titan peeking through the chocolate)
- 3 Armin: “Won’t you give me a bite?”
- 4 Levi: “Let’s decide which is harder, my six-pack or this chocolate bar.”
- 5 Levi and Erwin: “My bad, eating without asking. Didn’t know it was your ice cream.” (Erwin looks pissed! Oh the innuendo!)

- 6 Hange: “This chocolate bar! It’s really thick!”
- 7 Sasha: “I like to sandwich it between bread and eat it.” (SFX: ‘mogu mogu’ or gobble-gobble)
- 8 Jean: “Why am I the only one who has to run out and buy it?” (Sasha and Connie are hamming it up behind him)
- 9 EMA: “In the outside world there’s a sweet, cold food called chocolate ice cream bar.” – Armin. “Really…” – Eren.
- 10 Levi and Eren: “Who knew the captain liked chocolate ice cream bars.” – Eren (SFX: ‘pakih’ or crunch) “I’ve a sweet tooth to begin with.” – Levi
On the lower right hand corner of each box is a red rectangle saying: “Chocolate thickness – Wall Maria level *according to our research / just the right hardness”
At the back of the box are two versions explaining the chocolate:

- Sasha: “Whoa…this aromatic, deep taste is Belgian chocolate (used in 9.5% of the coating), isn’t it. Plus, it’s got a crunchy texture and melts smoothly in the mouth…Is this god’s…god’s ice cream?”
- Levi: “Hey, listen up. This is the aromatic, deep taste of Belgian chocolate (used in 9.5% of the coating). Crunchy texture and melt-in-your-mouth smoothness. You’ve read this far but whether you eat it or not…well… at best… make the choice you’ll least regret!”
At the upper middle part is Parson Nick of the Wallists saying: “Don’t expose this chocolate ice cream bar to the sun… if you want to eat it slowly, the box can be split in half!”
There’s perforation along the middle of the box so that you can halve it open, but this ruins the illustration out front so not recommended!
A QR code leads to Morinaga’s product campaign page, where you can download a free mobile phone wallpaper of Eren and Levi eating ice cream bars. Just click on the red button!
So there you have it, the latest AoT merch gimmick.
As for the food product itself, the chocolate’s overly sweet, the ice cream inside is vanilla but tastes more like sorbet than gelato. Not a fan of the taste, but one bar costs only 78 JPY (less than 1 USD) so I’m not complaining!

Oh wait, I’m not complaining about the ice cream bar itself, I’m complaining about the fact that there’s no Historia on any of the boxes 🙁
Poor queen. It’s not only Isayama ignoring her, even the product manufacturers are ignoring her… They’re trying to make up for their bad taste by putting Historia in the product’s official website, but I’m not impressed.
Speaking of popularity (or lack thereof), Levi appears three times on the boxes, four if you count the free wallpaper. Eren also appears the same number of times. Goes to show that, at least in Japan, Levi’s way up there along with the main character in terms of sheer popularity!
whyd you hide levis abs??? its what i wanted to see most of all xD
Ahaha! Sorry about the abs, didn’t notice they were hidden. I sent you a full pic via FB. It’s not my fave illustration of Levi’s abs, though, so I also sent you links to my favorite doujinshi versions. I swear, these fans draw so much better than the original mangaka/animators! xD
