Attack on Titan Manga: Chapter 125 Review

[Warning: Contains spoilers]

Mikasa’s so fucking annoying. Despite all her abilities she has the brains of a slave. Armin’s so bloody annoying, too. Fucking useless ever since he was turned into a titan shifter, but man he was so right in his telling off Mikasa. That pathetic bitch really ought to learn to think for herself and others (not just Eren).

AoT drives me insane because the characters are tropey beyond belief, and yet so very addicting.

Excerpt from Chapter 125 of the manga “Shingeki no Kyojin” ⒸHajime Isayama/Kodansha Comics. The world is coming to an end, but all Mikasa seems to care about is Eren and the scarf he gave her.

Also, Isayama’s fucking inconsistent with his character development. He lifts Jean up with displays of leadership just to de-ball (emasculate) him against the megalomaniac Floch; lifts Levi up in the giant tree forest against his own titanized squad and Zeke, and then have him do a bloody stupid thunder-spear-in-psychopath’s-abdomen thing causing his own near-demise; lifts Mikasa up by having her take off the Eren scarf as a sign of detaching from him and becoming her own person, only to have her idiotically pine for it once again.

The ending I dare not hope for is that, while many of the characters die, Jean does end up becoming a bona fide leader just like Marco and Shadis predicted, Levi gets his revenge on Zeke and can finally put to rest his promise to Erwin, and Mikasa learns to live as a strong independent person and not merely an appendage to Eren or Armin. But none of these are likely because Isayama wants his manga to be “bittersweet” and “memorable”, which apparently for him means bloody painful.

So here’s the only painful ending that I can be satisfied with: I wish all the characters, as well as every person on that entire cursed planet, would just fucking die in their own self-created Armageddon. They deserve so much better but apparently the mangaka doesn’t think so. What can we do?

Oh, and BTW,  if we get instead the Eremika happily-ever-after that all those rabid shippers are demanding then I will never again purchase a manga written by Isayama. Happy endings suck. Tropey happy endings are the worst of them all.

*Sigh* I am hating Mikasa’s character more than ever. Can’t believe I planned to write a whole fanfic novela with her as a central character. The way things are going, she’ll just go “Ereh Ereh” as always but will have her unhealthy obsessive love for him rewarded with a happy ending. I will end up really, really despising SnK. I’ll wish I never got into it in the first place. It’s addictive manga like this that give young people all the wrong impressions about, well, everything.

If Isayama-sensei continues to go this route, then Mikasa will live and die a onenote character (The inscription on her gravestone: “Ereh”). Which will be a pity because she had so much potential for growth and character development.

Please, Isayama-sensei, give us all a Mikasa who isn’t anyone’s barnacle.

Now that Mikasa’s officially a pathetic bitch, the entire foundation of my novela has been thrown out the window. The foundation required was that Mikasa has the capability to think of others other than Eren. Now all that’s down the drain. Now I will have to write a completely-out-of-character Mikasa.

I wish I never wasted my time writing it in the first place.

Anyway, back to the chapter. Its saving grace is the appearance of our beloved Annie. Finally! After years and years of her being in that crystal grave, the warrior has risen once more. We got to learn more of her backstory and like most of the warriors, it is heartbreaking. Really looking forward to how she’ll deal with Eren.
