The Vampire Dies in No Time – Ronald, Draluc, Hanaikimaru, John and Mebiyatsu – Big Acrylic Figure Stands, Memo Holders and Canvas Tote – Merchandise Review

I was finally able to unpack the acrylic stands of Ronald and Draluc from The Vampire Dies in No Time (shortened to Sugu Shinu from here on) pop-up store at the Tokyo Anime Centre in Shibuya that I wrote about the other day. Also, after two store runs I was able to complete the acrylic memo stand collection! Let’s have a look at these beautiful merch:

先月、渋谷のポップアップストでゲットした吸血鬼すぐ死ぬのBIGアクリルスタンド、高さ28cm＋厚さ5mmでワインボトルに近い大きさで圧巻です? やっと飾ることができて嬉しい? ちなみに、ロナルド様は下戸でドラルク公はざるのためドラ公とワインを楽しもうと思っています☺️ そして、アクリルメモスタンド、ようやくコンプできました❣️先月は鼻息丸が売り切れでしたので先週末の閉店間際にもう一度行ったら幸い補給され無事ゲット? もう、可愛くてメロメロ❤️ アニメ第２期も最近発表され、本当に待ち遠しいです?‍♂️??

Ronald and Draluc Big Acrylic Figure Stands

I’ve mentioned previously how much I love these new costumes for our two main protagonists: Ronald looks part Victorian explorer, part classic Sherlock Holmes detective, while Draluc looks both like a gentleman on a Grand Tour of Europe as well as a nobleman preparing for a horse ride through the countryside to see how his serfdom is doing. 

The colours are in muted tones of brown, red and purple. They both look so handsome!

At 3,960 JPY each (a little less than 40 USD), I was hoping the figures would at least have a proper illustrated background in their packaging, but all there was was plain white cardboard.

They’re around 28cm high and 5mm thick, so almost as tall as a wine bottle.  Ronald’s bumbag is shaped to resemble Mebiyatsu!

To give you an idea of just how large they are, I did line them up next to a standard wine bottle. They really do make an impact at such a large size!

BTW, Ronald is a teetotaller while Draluc can down it by the gallon, so I’m drinking this bottle with him??

Hanaikimaru, John and Mebiyatsu Acrylic Memo Holder Stands

Here are four of them! Mebiyatsu is fulfilling his role as a hat stand, while John the Armadillo is weighing himself and getting upset at the numbers. How cute! John is so adorable it makes me wish armadillos actually looked like him, ahaha!

Then there’s Draluc being the good cook he is (are those vampire-ized veggies he’s chopping up? Ahaha!) and preparing something delicious for the household. I love the idea of Draluc being a fine chef – it fits his personality so perfectly. Ronald has his mouth full eating up his housemate’s delectable concoctions. 

When I went to the pop-up store last month they were out of Hanaikimaru the Bat, so I went again last weekend before they closed up shop entirely. 

Thankfully, they limited purchase to one per person so I was able to get a hold of it. He’s simply too adorable! The wireless battery chargers that were sold out last month were also available once again for purchase.

I haven’t tried them out but these acrylic stands also double as memo holders: there’s a clip at the back of each that you can turn whichever way to hold your note.

Here they are displayed along with an antique globe, and Hanaikimaru as the main draw. You can see I tried to turn the globe to show Europe – Romania is where I’m assuming Draluc’s vampire family is originally from. There’s also a framed postcard of Ronald and Draluc, which I got as a giveaway from the Marion Crepe store. More on this in another post.

As the cutest character set atop a pedestal, Hanaikimaru seems to be enjoying every minute! Love him and all the other characters so much! I wish they’d also make merch of Draluc’s other failed transformations, as in the ones where he actually didn’t succeed turning into a bat. 

Useful and Practical Sugu Shinu Canvas Tote

Here’s a merch that I can actually use on a daily basis! I love the understated design, a pattern consisting of Ronald’s fly swatter and Draluc’s eyes, among others. The colour is muted enough so it won’t clash with the day’s outfit. 

What I love most is the inner pocket, shown below.

I’ve dozens of canvas totes and most of them don’t have pockets, which is a shame because they’re really useful. Can’t wait to use this one the next time I go out shopping.

Gorgeous Giveaway Postcards 

For every JPY 2,000 purchase you get one random postcard, with seven designs available. The store clerk was so kind, making sure I got one of each since I did buy enough to get all the designs. 

They show some of the most iconic moments in the show: Ronald being Paul the Pole Dancer, Draluc doing a DJ turn at the Late Night Show in Shin-Yokohama, and John travelling on the bullet train as well as looking for Draluc’s castle in Europe.

At the back of each postcard, the stamp section has a bat illustration (Adorable!) as well as the show’s logo underneath. 

Worth Every Penny

Sugu Shinu merch are relatively rare, unlike anime with mass popularity like One Piece or Doraemon or Kimetsu no Yaiba, so this pop-up store was really special and a godsend to fans. I loved all the products and wished I had big enough a bank account to buy one each of everything. But I do adore what I managed to get, and will be displaying and enjoying them at home for years to come.

Recently they announced a new anime season in the making, yey, can’t wait!

Purchasing the Kyūketsuki Sugu Shinu Merch

Unfortunately, the pop-up store closed on January 16, 2022, and along with it the online store. The only other way left to get a hold of the products above is via resellers at virtual flea markets. Here’s the Mercari listing for the Sugu Shinu x Tokyo Anime Center event.
