How do you guys spend your lunch break? For office workers like me we only get an hour for lunch. When a friend is around we usually eat bento together, or eat out somewhere, and then spend the rest of the time chatting. When I’m alone I try to read, or nap, or study for whatever certification exam I’m tackling at the moment, or do some other ‘useful’ thing. But sometimes I waste my time by going to a large electronics retail store near my office and playing with a gacha or capsule toy machine.
Onemutan Sleepy Figurines
Like this one, for instance. It’s called おねむたん onemutan, a portmanteau of 眠い nemui or sleepy and -tan, a term of endearment in place of the usual -san honorific. I’ve been wanting these sleepy little figures since Stand Stones announced them at the end of May.
How can anyone look at these little sleepyheads and not go “Awwwwwwwww”? They’re about 4.5cm tall and just waking up from what we hope is a lovely, deep sleep.
There are five figures in all; to get all of them I had to play seven times, getting the same thing twice (Sukuna and Fushiguro). But I gave these two to a colleague of mine whose kid is into Jujutsu Kaisen, so all is well. If the toy was flat I would have looked for someone to trade with on Instagram, but because they’re kind of bulky the postage will cost more than regular mail. Better to try again! So I did and got these five egg-like capsules:
One could see below that only Satoru Gojo is given a special, separate blanket.
Japanese-Themed Backdrop by Daiso
For the backdrop I used a mini Japan-themed illustration board from the Daiso dollar store.
The great thing about this one is that it’s reversible. In front is a Japanese tatami room with paper screens, overlooking a Japanese garden. At the back is the night version, with fireflies lighting up the night. Even the tatami board is reversible!
As you can see, the folded edge is distracting in the picture. I took this shot at an angle and the fold looks so obvious.
This is a shot from the front. I think it looks better like this.
The Five in a Row
What do you think of my arrangement of the figures? Sukuna and Itadori are right next to each other, with Fushiguro next to Itadori. I’m thinking Yuji would like to keep Sukuna away from Megumi, so he’s decided to sleep between them. Kugisaki wants her own space so she’s at the far end. Gojo has eyes at the back of his head so he can see all the shenanigans everyone is up to. That’s why he doesn’t have to look back to see what’s going on 🙂
Here’s the daytime version. Isn’t it lovely? The sleepy poses are for when the alarm clock rings, so I think they fit this morning version of the backdrop better.
Gojo Grinning in Bed
Let’s look at them one by one. Satoru Gojo is grinning! I wonder if it’s because he’s having a dream of the good times he and Geto had before the latter went rogue, or if he’s listening in on the conversation of the others and thinking it’s funny.
Whatever the case may be, I really love the little blue stars on his eye mask. It’s a tiny detail that makes the toy worth every penny. His blanket has the Six Eyes symbol on it. And because his designated colour is blue, his bedding is blue as well.
Adorable Yawning Yuji
Yuji Itadori probably has the cutest pose amongst the five, for me, that is. He’s yawning, a big, sleepy yawn that we can all relate to. I love the way his hands are in fists and he’s stretching out an arm.
The mark on his orange blanket is not a fist but a hand, with Sukuna’s smiling mouth on it. For something so small to have this level of detail is just endearing and speaks of its quality.
Wrong Side of the Bed Megumi
I can just imagine Yuji or Nobara playfully poking Megumi Fushiguro while he’s still asleep, and him waking up in a mood. His hand scratching the back of his head is adorable.
On his turquoise blanket is a Divine Dog shikigami silhouette.
Cute Winking Wild Rose
Nobara Kugisaki is the only one without spiky hair 🙂 She’s winking, in a good mood this morning, already wide awake while her peers still have a foot in the Land of Sleep.
On her red blanket is a rose logo. I like that her futon and blanket have a different shade of red.
Man with Evil Intentions Sukuna
Holding court as if he’s still on his giant throne made up of human bones, Ryomen Sukuna is grinning wickedly and daring Yuji to come at him. He’s wearing his white and blue yukata, and his blanket is maroon. It’s covered in the pic but it has the black Sukuna mark on it, the same one that appears on his forehead.
Because his face has a downward tilt to it, I had to find something for him to sit on so I could take this shot 🙂
That’s it for the Jujutsu Kaisen Onemutan series by Stasto. Which figurine do you like best?
